Extravagance awaits you!
The golden age of hydrotherapy began in the nineteenth century, visitors flocked to partake of the thermal waters during their stay. Because the thermal water of Cauterets left a sulphur taste in the mouth afterwards, doctors recommended people to suck on a sweet to remove the taste. This is how the berlingot, a delicacy from the sixteenth century, became a favourite of the first spa town during the nineteenth and twentieth century. No less than ten factories were packed into this little town. Today, the streets of Cauterets are surrounded by the delicious sweet smell of confectionery freshly made by the hands of local craftsmen.
